The Rostoll-Cangiano lab seeks to understand how nutrition and management affect microbial colonization of the intestine and immune development of the calf. They develop preweaning nutritional strategies to improve immune development and reduce antimicrobial use, as a strategy to improve the health and lifetime productivity of dairy cows. They also study nutritional implications to immune function during the peripartum period.
